Sight word Q page

I also made a sight word letter Q page using sight words "I" and "the."

Letter Q

Letter Q week:

I printed out a letter Q and we used Q-tips to paint on the letter Q. Click here for the letter Q page.

On another day, I took black paper and we glued Q-tips to the paper in the shape of a letter Q. I found that cutting some of the Q tips where helpful in making part of the Q.  When I ran out of Q-tips we used pipe cleaner which also worked really well because the students were able to round the pipe cleaner and glue it to their page and some students used both pipe cleaner and Q-tips.

I also found these great pintables that can be used with buttons, round magnets, or small math manipulates. I found one for the letter Q and the number 8. We were also working on the number 8 this week.

I Am - Pre-Decodable Reader

I have many Pre-Decodable Readers but after reading the copyright info I realized that I can't scan and post them. So I decided to make my own to share with you. It was a last minute decision and Mini Mouse and Lego man were playing but I was able to take a few pictures of Mini Mouse for the book. You can print it on card stock, cut on the line and staple the book to make a great reader for your child learning sight words I, am, and the.

High Frequency Words

First off, As a local preschool teacher, I made a point of meeting with my local schools. I met with both kindergarten teachers in order to find out what they are looking for when their new kindergarten students arrive.

A big thing they look for is: Can your child write their name and do they have good fine motor skills. Can your child cut a straight line ect.? There of course are many others tasks the students should be able to do. The students should know all the letters of the alphabet by sight in addition to numbers at least 1-10. By the end of Kindergarten students should be able to read. I am attaching the kindergarten and first grade word list that our local school uses. This high frequency word list includes the 100 words for Kindergarten and more words for first grade.

I have some great pre-decodable readers that I use with my students once they know their alphabet. I am working on making some simple Pre-Decodables in which I will share as I go. One thing to understand is that learning the sight words is mainly memorization. I often look for sight words in other books and have your child see them and read them to you. You can pick one or two sight words to work on each month. I start with the letter, “I, am and the.”
